A wine and cheese marathon - YES!!!!!

The annual Marathon du Médoc is still a 26.2-mile run, but it’s not your average athletic event. Instead of water stations, this race through Bordeaux comes with a side of wine, food, and music. In fact there are 23 different wines for participants to try along the course and that’s enough to get lots of us non-runners off the couch.

As the route winds through vineyards and past chateaux, runners will be serenaded by 52 bands and can snack on everything from cheese to oysters to steak at stations on the path and there’s even ice cream for dessert. Those running in the marathon are also required to show up in costume, which adds to the fun.

But if the idea of running more than two dozen miles with a belly full of red wine, meat, and cheese has you feeling a little queasy, there’s also a second, shorter 10k run. Of course the prize for the first place male and female marathon finishers may entice you to give it a try: they win their weight in Medoc wines.
