Hey there…it’s your captain speaking. I enjoy my role leading the topics in the Ladies Room. I LOVE the input from our in-studio guests and YOU even more. I’ve been married for almost 9 years. My husband, Nick, and I have been together for 17 years. Wow, I didn’t even realize it had been that long! We have a 5 year-old son. I have a hectic, yet very rewarding schedule trying to manage my work duties along with spending quality time with family and friends. No where did you see me mention anything about cleaning….I hate it; but, in the end, you have to do the laundry and the dishes. I get a lot of support from my hubby and our family – for that I am grateful! I love to cook and I do have a couple signature dishes. I love to travel…you name it, I’ll go! I wouldn’t consider my daily commute to/from Jersey travelling; but, I do spend a lot of time in my car! Above all else , watching the world through my little guy’s eyes is the most valuable treasure in the world.
I have lived in the Valley all my life. I think this is the reason I LOVE to travel! I am working my way around the world one country at a time! I recently spent some time as a Kiwi in New Zealand…absolute best experience of my life thus far! I get bored way to quick so I fill my time with Zumba (OBSESSED!), skiing, golf, wakeboarding, going to as many concerts as humanly possible! I like getting out to events around the Lehigh Valley like Wine Festivals, happy hours, dinner parties…any place that my friends and I can kick back with a couple of adult beverages and relax! I LOVE to cook and I think I am pretty good at it! I enjoy taking a recipe and making it as healthy and as low cal as possible. If you ever need any help with that, I’m your girl!
Hey, I’m Heather and I am your typical fun, loving and not SO MUCH high maintenance (though there are exceptions) kind of girl. I was born in the Lehigh Valley, graduate of Central Catholic High School and Alvernia University. For me, life everyday is exciting because I love my job, enjoy my hobbies and most importantly I am a MOM! I’m on the go constantly, if I’m not working, I’m riding at the barn with Hannah or have cheer practice with Haydn. I enjoy running for the mind, getting manicures/pedicures to stay beautiful, romantic dinners to feel sexy and SHOPPING for my therapy!! Whether you’re driving in your car, cleaning around the house or at a desk at work don’t forget to tune into us every Thursday at 8:20am. It’s totally worth spending a few minutes of your Thursday mornings around successful, intelligent women, who discuss style, relationships and the WHAT-NOT-TO-DO’S!!
I am the newlywed of the group! My husband Brent and I got married in October of 2011 and it has been wonderful! He has a 7 year old daughter, who I love dearly. She has forced my maternal instinct to be kicked into full force and I wouldn’t change a second of it! Though, I do not have any children of my own, I am looking forward to our future family! A few things that I enjoy are camping, fishing, music and spending time with those that I love. Music is therapeutic and means a great deal to me. Mix that with a campfire, good friends and no contact to the outside world? Simply can’t get much better than that! I enjoy traveling and I have a bucket list of places I will see before I leave this world! Hope you enjoy what you hear and thanks in advance for listenin!

Former model and aesthetician Yara Shoemaker is the author of the new book Health On Your Plate. She shares her natural beauty tips and recipes In addition to speaking about her passion for healthy cooking. She covers her history of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cooking, shows how to build confidence in the kitchen, shows how to review, revive and renew your pantry, how to make traditional cultural dishes with exotic flavors and a healthy twist, and more. She also has lots of tips on her blog: Yara’s Way!
She discusses her passion below:
I’ve always believed that people are in greater need of nutrition than food. My grandmother says that more people die from a full plate than an empty one. I found this to be especially true when I moved here seven years ago from my native Syria, where meals were cooked at home with ingredients bought fresh from the market. Here, I was lost among the colorful packaging and clever marketing in the supermarket aisles. But faster and easier doesn’t mean tastier or healthier, and after I fell in love with a wonderful man (now my husband), I became more concerned for my health and that of my loved ones. I was determined to extend our “expiration dates.”
Love inspired my mission to understand the source of life: food. I gathered a team and dedicated three years of my life to researching every tool and ingredient in my kitchen, complementing modern knowledge with my grandmother’s traditional wisdom. The elders of her village are energetic and disease-free, and I aspired to understand their graceful way of aging. I decided to stock my kitchen to match my grandmother’s as closely as possible. Memories of her cooking inspired me to choose earthenware pots instead of non-stick cookware, and it turns out that scientific evidence supports that choice.
Just like food is more than bright packaging and catchy slogans, beauty is more than the creamy concoctions and promises marketed to us. Growing up, I often saw my mother in the kitchen before bedtime, not making a midnight snack, but blending a pinch of this with a hint of that to create her own natural beauty treatments. These simple solutions have been passed down through generations of women in my family, and I am excited to share these secrets with women around the world to enhance their health and natural beauty. I think every woman feels best about her body when it’s healthy both inside and out, so I was sure to include many natural beauty recipes in my book.
Enjoy these simple solutions to a more naturally beautiful you!
This excerpt comes from my new book, Health On Your Plate; a complete resource for your optimal healthy lifestyle! It’s the quick guide to everything you need to know, from the healthiest cookware and appliances, to essential spices, produce and ingredients every kitchen should have and how to shop for them. I even uncover eye-opening, little-known food mysteries that will help keep you and your family healthy and safe. And you can look forward to my easy, versatile recipes that help you get creative in the kitchen to make incredibly healthy and delicious meals, as well as natural beauty solutions!
Whether you're into dieting, eating right, or just want to stay healthy, keeping a food journal is a great option to staying commited. Writing down everything you eat can really put things into perspective.
Keeping a food journal can be as simple as writing down everything you ate for the day and how much, or you can get more complex and use an app like MyFitnessPal, which allows you to count calories and add in workouts.
Sticking to keeping a journal can be the hardest part for most people, so look into getting a buddy to start with you, that way you'll stay motivated. You can view other tips to keeping a food journal here.

April showers bring May colors…
MAKE UP FOR EVER Director of Artistry, Jenn Karsten contributes her views on spring trends:
For Spring 2013 it’s all about minimalism. The looks are graphic, monochrome, and then there is a splash of cultural print injected in to shift dresses, kimono-style jackets and leathers of all texture and tone. It is more important than ever to make your total look an effort in styling.
PRO Tip: Play one signature feature off of perfected, sculpted skin and groomed perfect details. Black, white, camel, emerald green, lapis blue are the go-to colors to get it right.
Eyes: It’s a retro liner with a light matte lid and a softly sculpted crease. Liner is classic, black and tucked neatly into the roots. Use a cream black liner pot, MAKE UP FOR EVER – AQUA BLACK, and a small, firm liner or angle brush. Start by wiggling the liner in between the roots of lashes before you paint the line across the top. On top, always start in the center of lids to mark the width of the top line, then from outer corner sweep liner in to meet the mark. Finish the inner corners by sweeping liner in to meet the mark from the other side. It is easy as one, two, three! Don’t go over-dramatic by extending way out or flicking up the ends. Just keep it simple. Finish with a jet black mascara to “fan” the lashes, especially on ends. I like MAKE UP FOR EVER – SMOKY LASH.
Lips: Play a bold, over-saturated lip color off of sculpted cheeks and eyes. Try bold, bright fuchsias, electric oranges and cherry reds. Line, define and blot to perfect and make it last all day. I love MAKE UP FOR EVER ROUGE ARTIST INTENSE #36 AND AQUA LIP 16C for bold bright fuchsia lips. Be careful when contouring the shape of your lips with lip liner to stay neatly tucked into the corners and only add extra volume in the center. Apply the lipstick to fill in and then blot kiss once with tissue. (Available at sephora.com)
