Wow! What a speech!
Thursday 09-04-2008 4:47pm ET
I don't want to get political here.  I don't care who you're voting for (well, I do, but you don't need my take on things... you get enough of that everywhere else). BUT, whether you're for Obama or McCain, I believe anyone could clearly see Governor Palin's speech the other night at the RNC was a HOMERUN, and then some!  My word!  I have MC'd hundreds of events, spoken in front of thousands, and worked with some of the best public speakers in the world. I was blown away by how polished she was.  It's estimated there was an audience of 37 MILLION that tuned in to see her! That's even more than the final episode of "Idol"! Wait a minute here... you mean to tell me more people might actually care about the future of our nation than the next big pop singer?!  What's up with that?!  There must be a mistake. :) Setting politics aside, I think it's fair to say Palin proved she can play with the big boys.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL SAFETY
Wednesday 08-27-2008 8:04am ET

It's all common sense & very simple, but not a bad idea to quickly remind yourself & your kids:

Motorists need to be alert for students darting into the street from between parked cars or improperly crossing the street while walking or riding their bikes to school.  Students are reminded they must exercise caution for their own safety when boarding and riding the bus.

PennDOT offers students the following school bus safety tips:

  • Get to the bus stop five minutes early to avoid having to run across the road to catch the bus;
  • Be sure to look LEFT-RIGHT-LEFT to see that all cars have stopped; Avoid the School Bus Danger Zone – stay at least 10 giant steps away from the bus on all sides, so the bus driver can see you – if you drop something and it is close or under the bus be sure to tell the driver before you retrieve it;
  • NEVER walk behind the school bus;
  • When getting on and off the school bus, make sure all drawstrings and other loose objects are secure so they don’t get caught in the handrail or door;
  • Talk quietly while on the bus, so the driver is not distracted; and
  • Remain seated at all times and wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before exiting.

Jonas Brothers
Monday 08-25-2008 6:36am ET
This is not a knock towards the Jonas Brothers, I think they are talented.  However, I'm playing devil's advocate here.  Do they have what it takes to remain super-popular, or will they, like many before them fade away in time?  With their upcoming performance this Saturday at the Allentown Fair, I know of people paying thousands of dollars to get tickets!  Will this last, or in the near future will we be trying to give away their tickets for free?
